Looking at getting an external hard disk and deciding between the WD MyBooks or one of the Lacies as they seem to get good write ups.

What manufacturers hard disks do Lacie use though?
Any comments on the relative merits of MyBook or Lacie?

Thanks
Andrew

I believe they use maxtor drive inside. Given the choice i'd get a WD or seagate as i've had good experiences with them.

Have just bought a seagate HDD and caddy for a nice portable backup system.

I know people with Lacies and they have been good also.

hope that helps

Thanks.
Will probably stick with the WD MyBook then. Heard several stories here of maxtors failing....

Andrew

had one and yep it's a maxtor inside and yes it died since then I just buy the parts seperatly and slap a wd in it usually.

Thanks for the additonal feedback. If they have swapped from Maxtor I might give them a go.
For some reason the 'Brick' models caught my eye - just hope it isn't indicative of the drive performance :p

Andrew

the brick is the same as the porsche drive, just in a different case so all is good, plus the bricks stack....... if only they came with wheels and plastic people

Guess if you bought enough you could build a house :p
They know their marketing I guess!

Hi

Heres my experience on Lacie, Bought a d2 extreme 1.6tb drive
On 24.11.2004 Two years warrenty. Just died last week, 3 weeks out of warrenty :(
Yeah not bad for a £1,300 drive. Lacie did not want to know.

Bought a Lacie Porsche 250GB ages ago and it had a Seagate drive - just got another one and it also has a Seagate drive. Good show! :)
