What HDMI lead I've never bought one before ?

Are £3 cheapys ones ok or should you pay more for a branded ones ?

This will be for a 1080p media player like the WDTV 2 Live.

Na man, you really should be spending at least £40 on a good cable. I hear monster make very high quality cables. Well worth checking this out.

But seriously, spend as little as you can on a cable that is long enough for you. Definitely aim for £5 or less (for 3m or less).

Contrary to popular belief (except on this forum ;) ) there is no need to buy an expensive HDMI cable. It's digital and unless you're buying a very long cable there is no benefit to paying through the nose. If you want to throw money away feel free but I bought a 10m cable from 'a place that fixes screws' for £25 and it's great.

The only thing to worry about with cheap cables is the construction.

So watch out that it doesn't fall apart!

Indeed! I bought 4 cheapo HDMI cables for £3 each, they are perfectly fine apart from one which over time appears to be falling apart - it will lose sync on the TV which is pretty annoying when mid-Guitar Hero :p

That said, 1 out of 4 isn't bad at £3 a pop :p

I'm with everyone else. No more than £5. Jungle have some good cables pretty cheap, got 2 5m hdmi cables for less than £7.

If that post isn't sarcastic then yup it's true.

No difference apart from construction. Fancy weaving, shielding, exotic metals and covers have no effect at all. A well put together £3 cable can still be far superior to a £1000 cable when it coes to reliability. It is a bit of a lottery when you get to much longer lengths but for 90% of people without big installs and runs to projectors then all is good with the cheapies.

There is no way that PQ can be changed by a HDMI cable. Havea look on audioholic guides and the x4 parts to the avforums HDMI event. There is a reason what-hifi ban any talk of avforums....... Because it would teach people not to buy the expensive cables they push with their bogus reviews.

I have been using Ikuna Hdmi cables for a couple of years, there well cheap, but do a great job.

If you want to splash out, then look at the Cablesson Kaiser 1.4, which are supposed to be the new dogs dangling bits. ;)

I wouldn't personally go the absolute cheapest I could but only the interest of decent construction and build quality so I run less risk (hopefully) of it all falling to bits in 6 months time. There is only so well you need to build a cable though, so obviously i'm not talking silly sums of money.

Hehe :D

1.4 HDMI used with equipment that isn't 1.4 compatible :D

I've seen an article (Home Cinema 175) talking about new HDMI cables to support upcoming features like deep colour

there is now standard and high speed versions, so you may want to check it out (especially for those people pre-installing cables)
