£50 absolute maximum budget.

HD555 - £51 delivered
Beyerdynamic DTX900 - £46 delivered
Audio Technica ATH-A500 - £50 delivered
Goldring DR100 - £31

Opinions? the HD555 look to be the best but maybe I'm missing something :)

Nowhere to demo them, there are two audio places near me. Richer sounds which don't stock any of them and some other one where the cheapest headphones they stock are Grados :p

Just got some 2nd hand 555's and they're simply awesome for the money.

I run a very expensive (for me!) hifi consisting of a Cyrus CD7Q, Cyrus Smartpower, Cyrus PSX-R, Yamaha AX1, Wharfedale PI-40's, QED Silver Anniversary Biwire cable, and Russ Andrews Silver Streak cables.

The Sennheisers offer a very similar presentation - fast, accurate and powerful but incredibly delicate too! Imaging is good and the soundstage they produce is wide and expansive.

Only thing that really counts against them is the open back design which will mean others in the room will be able to hear a much tinnier rendition of what you're listening too!

Despite that and for the price i simply cannot fault them though. You can even replace the cable if you need!

Thanks for that gt_junkie, I was pretty sure that the 555s would be the best there. I'm just waiting for an auction to finish before I order them.

Can't say, against he rules as it is a competitor.

Although I just ordered it ayway, can't be bothered waiting for my auction to end :p

I'm trying to think of a tenuous link that won't get me suspended, not happening though :p

It's a jungle out there, dons and underbosses everywhere ;)

I can just plug them into my normal amplifier I would have thought? They're 'only' 50 Ohms so they shouldn't be too hard to drive.

I hope, anyway...

You'll be fine.

Running mine off my pc's audigy soundcard.

They're a heck of a lot more sensitive than the Skullcandy bins i had before!

Can't crank the PC's volume past 20% without them blowing my head off! :)

Do you have the 555s? I could have sworn you had 485s?

Just that the 485s are a little easier to power, I'm sure they'll be fine though. Thanks for the help (again :)).

Edit: Nevermind that was mrk that had the 485s, sorry I was being daft as usual :D

I'm buying the 555s though tonight if I can find them for £51 :) I just bought some NVA LS2 speaker cables for £18 (3 metres a pair and terminated by NVA in their usual manner) - chuffed I found these though and now just need to finish the setup off with the 555s to set me right for nighttime music :)

No worries! ;)

I've used these with both a Video Ipod and a Sony Minidisc (very quiet output) with great results.

The Sony's volume was so bad i couldn't get them loud enough with certain headphones but with these 555's i've had no trouble!

Let me know what you think when you get them. :)

You'll love them mrk!

Cheers for getting back before - just managed to get myself a Cyrus 1 for £31 (delivered) off the bay - hopefully that will satisfy my amp needs! :)
