I find dyson's are always a good bet if you're willing to spend a bit of cash, they are truely excellent vacuum's.

No they're not, the motors burnt out often. Seen skiploads of Dysons, had loads come in for repair/skip as well.

We've got a VAX Swift 1600.

My parents have had their dyson for about 4 years now and its still as good as it was the day they bought it. I guess the majority outweighs the minority.

It was merely a suggestion.

We've had a vax for about 6 years as well, only thing i notice about that is how loud it is

I got a Vax V006 (or something like that), reconditioned, and it's by a long shot the most powerful vacuum cleaner I've ever seen. My mother has a fairly new (6 months old) Dyson, but when she moved home and I bought my Vax over for her to use she couldn't believe how much better it was.

I got a tshirt caught in it once and I had to power it off to get the it out again ;) - another plus is the fact that it seems to have an attachment for everything - it needed a little assembly when I first got it (nothing major) but after that, everything just kinda clicks into place. Easy to clean too.

As ever, YMMV, but I recommend them heartily (especially as it only cost me £40 from some auction site - £90 brand new from a well-known electrical etailer).

Oh yeah, I forgot that bit....it's very loud :)

Vacuum cleaner threads always turn into a 50/50 split for/against Dysons. Personally I love ours, had it 5 years and not a hiccup.

Normally I also roll out the 'my parents have had their DCxx since Dysons were launched and it's still in mint...blah blah', however it finally went pop about 2 weeks ago :p

Still, they got another Dyson, so they must like em. :)

We have that, my mum HATES it. She thinks its big, heavy, hard to use, short hose, fiddly with all the cables, and LOUD.

Another vote for Dyson. But don't get their washing machines. They are nowt but a big pile of steaming plastic cack

Got a dyson here, seems to do the job very well.

acutally found it in the skip :p the motor was bust so bought one of ebay for £13 and the £200+ vacuum now works perfectly :D :)

I just bought a Vax 1850 watt upright from that high street meteor type store. They have them reduced from £199 to £99 and are totally brilliant pick up ability. It looks just like a Dyson to be honest without the ridiculous price tag. Sounds like it is ready for take off mind you when you start it up. Wifes happy takes her half the amount of time to do the house.

i have a bissell 3750 e. my electrolux died so i borrowed my mums dyson, it seemed to do ok, but then i got the bissell, and having only hoovered the night nefore using the dyson, the bissell picked up loads of stuff out of the carpets that the dyson just could not get.

also, the bissell has a removable centre so that it transforms into a lightweight handheld cleaner with all the extensions you could need.

it also has a button to turn off the spinney bit seperately from the suction bit, and its reasonably light and quieter than the dyson

A pre-2005 Dyson made in the UK :p

Had my DC01 for 6+ years now and apart from replacing the filters, occasional belt, the brush & that flappy thing that covers the brush on the bottom its still going strong

Lol i love the technical terms, "that flappy thing" utter genius :D

Don't agree it's heavy, your mums WEAK, ORGANIC :p it is loud though but it's powerful, and the attachment hose is abit short. Not hard to use  Plop out cylinder twist top off, remove filter, empty and put back together. Just unravel the cord, switch it on. Women eh? "Cables" you mean "cable" :D Much better VC than our other one should've seen dust on the full house clean (did day before with the old one)

I've found the louder ones are just more powerful, quieter VC's are more acceptable for home but lack the power.

Dyson. Dyson. Dyson.

Every time. We've bought a few now over the years for different houses and they are all great. The extension tube split on one of them and the motor burnt out (they've changed the design now), we phoned the (free, I think) helpline and spares were sent to us in 3 days absolutely free. Can't fault them.
