I've been thinking about this quite a lot, and there are a lot of apps I would love the iPhone/Touch to have so that I don't have to carry my MBP about with me:

RSS Reader, absolutely.
ma.gnolia/del.icio.us bookmark client for easy access to all of my bookmarks
IM
Text Editor
Terminal (for SSH and so forth)
FTP Client
Mini photo editor/drawing app

what about you rapscallions?

MSN / AIM client is the only thing I really want. Otherwise some more widget things would be helpful for work (decent scientific calculator for example), and of course plenty of games :)

Official - perhaps a Transmit application, and a lightweight To-Do list that syncs with the computer (Where the hell is this? Day one stuff)

Nothing wrong with the homebrew stuff, though. The decent apps are solid and work flawlessly. The Terminal application complete with gestures is reight cool.

Scientific calculator is on its way with firmware 2.0. :)

I'd like to see a couple of simple games. Tetris etc. An instant messenger client. I'd also like to add images from the web to my photo library unless you can already do that and I've overlooked it. :D

Apps
  • IM / MSN client
  • BBC iPlayer / 4OD application with offline viewing and decent interface etc.
  • RTF / word editor

Features i'd like to see added:
  • An option to turn off the accelerometer in apps like safari and music so i can browse lying down!
  • flash plug in

From the official apps I would like a remote control application, like VNSea from Installer, IM, Text Editor and save to some popular web file formats HTML CSS PHP etc, drawing pad, FTP and some cool games.

Until I get all them I am sticking with with the one and only Installer.app as i have all these :D:D

I want something like MarsEdit so I can post to my blog from the iPhone. For some reason the web based interface doesn't work too well on it.

Yeah I forgot to mention a better iPlayer. I'd also like a 3D version of google earth similar to what they demoed on Android. Just for fun of course.

not really, I'd rather wait for official apps and I'm the sort of person this sort of thing goes wrong for. There aren't any apps I'm desperate for.

Well pretty much every single app you mentioned in your want list is available to you right now if you jailbreak. What do you think can go wrong? You click on a 'Go' button and it does everything for you. If something did go wrong you could just restore the original firmware on it. Considering this is an overclocking site it always surprises me that a simple and completely reversible tweak on a mobile phone is considered scary to some people.

I agree, go on jailbreak it :)

There's 11 year old kids all over youtube doing it :p

The ability to SSH, and perhaps a few cool games.

I'm not bothered about IM tbh.
