I'd format anyway just to make sure everythings clean and fresh, so when I put the card in and say it didn't seem to be giving the full detail, then I can eliminate things like this software or that driver or whatever. Thats just me though, its up to you.
Your CPU isn't that great, but im not all that sure since I have a P4 3.4GHZ which is fine for me. Someone else will know on these forums. These forums have the fastest replies I've ever seen lol.

I only have one harddrive so I have to back up all my files to a few DVD discs. I can make partitions but it is easier to just backup to DVD's. I'll probly buy a new harddrive down the line. But for now gotta buy that 7900 GTO and a 520W power supply.
the x1800xt is a good card for the money, pritty much performs the same as the 512mb version and outperforms the x1900 from what ive read arund here, but if money isnt a problem, then the faster card would be the obvious

Same here, but also the price and the near GTX speed. The 7900 GTX 512MB is a Beast. I wanted one but didn't have the money for it. Now they have released basically a 7900 GTX 512MB but just a 5-10% slower clock speed. That can be overclocked anyway.
The other reasons is that the card uses less power which is very good for me anyway, and it also is a big overclocker and stays a lot cooler.
Note, high settings on modern games will most likely not be possible due to the fact that you have only 1gb of ram. I'd spend a little less on a 3dcard and get another gig. Imagine spending £170 on a 3dcard only to have really bad chugging when your ram fills up and you have to page to disk constantly.

True, however that only depends on some games such as battlefield 2. I am going to buy 2GB RAM soon anyway but I don't think I can get DDR2 so I'll buy DDR RAM. I need to sell my 4 x 256MB which is in there now. RAM seems to be more expensive for 2GB than a graphics card.
