what is a 'low' i7 D0 stock voltage?

I have rjk mention that the chips with the low stock voltages automatically go into the pile for 4.2 testing. I am wondering what those low stock voltages are?

my D0 stock is 1.19375 and its crap so id like to go look for one with a nice low stock voltage to improve my chances.
 
CPU-Z will show your voltage. Mine can do 3.9GHz at below stock voltage so I assume it can run at stock settings pretty low too. The FPO/BATCH on the packaging is 3847A839.
 
bios will show stock voltage cpu-z doesnt, it shows CURRENT voltage for me

Its specifically the 920's im looking at. i dont think my 1.19375 is low at all but i have nothing to compare it to.

I think it's pretty low actually. Also, I thought that current voltage was what you were after? That's the whole point after all... the actual voltage setting, as you say, can be found in the BIOS. Default is 1.25V.

current voltages are completely irrelevant.
 
bradley you can run 4ghz stable at that stock voltage, on air?!?!

rjc what speed does yours do?

these voltages are still listed on the packaging right? if i was to go to a shop and examine all the packaging i might find one with low voltage?
 
No you wouldn't. All of them run at 1.25V stock, which varies due to SpeedStep etc.

You have to find the lowest voltage for a given overclock by manually testing.
 
Yah im on air and its LinX stable at 4Ghz. Temps go through the roof at much over 1.23v. The batch codes are on the boxes and thats a very good place to start. I found out who had what batches before buying then searched around for results from ppl with the same batch and choose the best. You cant know what the VID is before opening it and testing. Although someone with same batch may get 4Ghz at 1.1v then another chip with same number could need 1.25v. Luck of the draw really. Iv had a few dual cores and never had a good one where others have.
 
I see. must have changed since the P4's and the old amd's then, where the stock voltage is listed on the box.

im wondering then what rjk was talking about. surely they dont open them all up, mount them all and go into the bios to check the stock voltage and then dismantle it again and put them into piles for testing for the overclocked bundles. if they cant tell from the box then thats what they must do i guess.
 
im after stock voltages, not how low the voltage can be set at stock speeds.

Also, heard other threads/places mentioning turning off various power saving features to see stock voltage. On a UD5 at least, you dont need to, just go into the tweaker menu and scroll down and it says what the stock voltage is under "normal" column.
 
any stock voltage below 1.2 is good

i have had a few on test today with stock vcore of 1.26v

and they sat there at 4ghz quite happily
 
rjk what settings did you use to get that 1.26v chip stable at 4ghz? in terms of vcore and QPI?

I must have a really crappy chip even tho its default voltage is pretty much mid range it seems.
