What is a "pallet"?

I went to a 1st day induction for a new job the other day. There was about 20 of us. The subject of pallets came up and how they could be dangerous.

The person doing the induction asked this one young girl (about 17) a question and she replied she didnt even know what a pallet was!

Now, i admit it was for a nobrain job (which im only doing on the weekends for pin money) but i thought everyone would know what a pallet is!

What with all these record exam results (sarcastic snigger) i couldnt help but think this was abit shocking.

Is there anyone who will admit on here that they dont know what a pallet is???

Arn't the blue "chep" pallets made from recyled plastic rather than wood?

People who have never been near a warehouse might not know what a pallet is. It's not something you would come across in everyday life.

To be fair to her, there are probably things in the kitchen she could name which you wouldn't know about.

Used to have the blue ones all the time at my old work, with all our stock on them. There not that bad unless you want to make a stack more than 5-6 high, then its really hard work to throw them on top without someone helping.

Also they are very hard to nail through when some "appeared" in my loft for flooring..

also if you have pallets, you get PALLET TRUCK RACING!!!!
