What is better, 2 HD3870 in crossfire, or 2 8800 Ultras in SLI?

Just wondering because just had a massive argument on UT3 where people were saying that SLI was better and the other people saying Crossfire is better.

So is Crossfire the best
Or SLI?

i think crossfire tech works better, but the 8800 ultras in sli outperforms the 3870 as they are a lot more powerful

i am wondering about this too, would 2x 3870's beat a single GTX or a single ultra :)

if they do then i would be very tempted to do some crossfire :D

Sometimes it will batter ultras in SLI, sometimes it will be worse than a single card, and most of the time you will be trying to get it to work

The potential is there, but right now the delivery is weak.

In a word, No.

1 GTS will Batter 1 3870:)

Aye but Crossfire batters SLI :p.

Although the 2 Nvidia cards should outperform crossfire as 2x HD3870 beats a single GTX and Ultra. Two of any GT, GTS, GTX or Ultra would beat the crossfire set up in most titles.

To the OP - Crossfire is better but AMD/ATI do not have a single card to compete with Nvidia. Two X2 3870's should beat any SLI set up.

Crossfire = Better tech, and more efficient scaling.

However, as nVidia cards are leaps and bounds ahead of 3870's even when used in the far less efficient SLi mode their raw power pushes them ahead of 3870's in Crossfire.

Basically in slowest to fastest:

3850
3870
GT
GTS - GTX - Crossfire 3850's
Ultra
Crossfire 3870's
SLi GT's
SLi GTS's
SLi GTX's
SLi Ultra's
