what is better?

-do not intend to use directX10
-game at 1280 x 1024 resolution
-want really good frame rates on older games but wouldnt mind a bit of cod4.


7900GT x 2 in SLi

or

8600GT x 2 in SLi


mabye a silly question but from my experience older cards do a lot better for frame rates in older games than new cards..

eg my friend has a single 7900GT and i have an 8800GT OC and in older games (eg call of duty 1) he gets simular frame rates at times. However in cod4 i get very good frame rates at high settings, he gets unplayable ones.

im not the one upgrading, its for a friend, i will be keeping my 8800gt for now.

main target = very good frame rates on call of duty 1

so im guessing the 8600?

or is there a better choise

Either of those cards should do well in COD1, it's quite an old game now, best way is to try it out but at a guess the 8600 would be quicker however I have a sneaking feeling that on games like COD1 the 7900GT might pull away. I read it as a 7600GT originally, sorry.
