What is BOT in tf2?

I just joined a game and instead of where it shows the ping it says BOT

Maybe he has genuinely never come accross bots before, though I find that hard to believe.

It is an AI controlled character, not a person and it is run from the server so has no ping.

TF2 bots have no AI as far as I remember, really avoid!

This. They run along set routes and bunny hop like hell.

Used to boost the player numbers on dull/haxor (the ones where you can play with instant crits, etc) servers.

Bot servers can be fun occasionally when you're in the mood for just killing everything and not caring about anything else. You can get like 200 kills with only 10 deaths quite easily.

means get out of there n00b and find some real people to play with, i hate that when i join one of these without noticing and find im doing unusually well then read the 'BOT' when i check the board i just think MY TIME HAS BEEN WASTED!

so are the names made up? beucase sometimes i have played with those guys without it saying bot

I've had the same thing, you get a set of "real" names then the round restarts and 5 of your team are stood on the exact same spot bunny hopping in front of the ammo locker.

There are NEW TF2 bots, based on the AI that Valve used for Left 4 Dead, and Left 4 Dead 2. They are pretty damn good at playing KOTH (that's all they can play currently).

I played a map for fun, and added official Valve bots, and they were bloody good!
