Hi everyone, live in a place where mags and info is in short supply.
I have an msi k8n neo4 platinum mobo married to an asus 6600 graphics card.I want to upgrade the graphics card and am a little confused over the higher spec cards saying that they are sli ready. My board is pci express but not sli, what I want to know is can these sli ready cards be installed in my non sli mobo.I know the new 7900 card is due out,but wont be available here for a while unless I travel back to the UK.So I am looking at a 7800 vga card, maybe a 7800gtx 512mb,will this work ok on my mobo,by the way my cpu is an amd 3500+ venice core.Any advice much appreciated.

Yes you can run any single pci-e card on your pci-e board, the sli just means the card is ready to be used in sli with an sli board and another card.

Your mobo will work with all Nvidia (or ATI) PCIE cards (SLI ready means you can use 2 if you want or just the 1).

However considering the price of the 7800GTX cards & the price of the X1800XT cards (which are faster).. i would go for something like ....

PowerColor ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-048-PC) Price:**£234.95 **(£276.07*Including VAT at 17.5%)

512MB ram also helps at higher res / detail settings, its faster than the 7800GTX, better Image Quality & importantly cheaper. :)

One consideration that I have to take into account is that I have a skystar 2 pci dvb card in my pc and I am running nvidia pure video decoder software which is an excellent piece of software. Is there anything comparable from ati?I have always been a fan of nvidia since my 64mb geforce 2 pro was installed in my other pc 5 years ago and have been happy with the 6600,so try to convert me.
