what is considered a good cpu temp during 30 minutes to an hour of gaming?

These last few days ive been using my computer more than i have done since i built it months ago and the use has been for gaming compared to previous usage being setting it up and doing some video editing at which point i never needed to take any notice of temps nor was the fan being loud and kicking in at high speed a lot.(i assume its that and not my rx 570 which tends to run slightly cooler)

Its the 5900x with an ID cooling single fan tower cooler. according to Msi Afterburner the temps for the cpu have been mid 70s to mind 80s with the power usage going up to around 125w.

Being a 12 core processor, the utilization tends to range from 6% to 60% most the time i think without double checking.

I know every processor varies and the 5900x is a high end chip, but im only playing games long enough to record some decent footage, so within that hour im playing multiple games pushing them the best i can for the hardware.


The noise alone is making me want to change to an AIO, but i can only fit 120mm versions which i dont know will make that much of a difference with that i have described.

thats fine, your cpu will run all day at 80c

if you feel its hot... its not but if you do a PA120 will do a better job

ok thanks. i know people like to get as cool as they can, i just wasnt sure on a good temp with how often the fan ramps up at times and it does create a lot of heat out the back of the case like an xbox series s which i know tends to be normal, though my case has a glass window and only 2 case fan options.

120 aio would be pointless, why is that all you can fit?

you could get a bigger+better air cooler, but I don't know if there are space issues.

getting hot under heavy load isn't necessarily a problem tho, but nothing wrong with an upgrade for something quieter.

I use a M-atx portable case that only has 2 useful case fan positions and a glass window. it does have mesh on the top, but only extra fans can be mounted at the bottom which would require no gpu or hard drives fitted which is obviously pointless.

I purposely chose the case for what i wanted and fits perfectly on my desk shelf, so i wont be changing the case. This is my first proper use of the system and first time using more than a 6 core chip on a desktop, so i needed to get a rough idea if i might need a new cooler. the rx 570 i got used and those fans tend to be reasonably noisy, so im not sure which is the more noisier, but cpu + case fans are silent outside of gaming, so im not sure if you can actually get quieter coolers while running higher temps?
