What is ECC Mode?

Thread title says it all..

When I boot.. it posts saying my ram isn't in ECC Mode.

It's not a major problem, everything's working.. just made me wonder what it is, and if it would benefit me..

ECC is a special error check mode. Your RAM has to be a special type to support it since it's hardware based.

Ah ok, thanks..

On my mobo, 2 of my 4 ram slots are blue.. just wondering (may sound noobish) would it affect the speed or anything of my RAM if I were to use these instead of the white slots?

Doubt it, its likely to show which slots are each other's Dual Channel partners.
