What is FAST and are you ?

How fast a car is perceived varies, to most folk my 307.7hp classic scooby is bonkers, to me sure it's fast but if you want bonkers than the stripped out 800hp skyline with a race driver at the wheel is rather quick. ;)

The faster the car you sit in, the more you end up craving.
 
8.9 seconds 0-60 on my iPhone today (with two passengers, one of which was timing before anybody pipes up about using a phone whilst driving :P) but I've never timed it before so have nothing to compare it to, plus this was just guesswork so probably out a bit (unsure of the book figures for a PD150 leon)

I don't consider it 'fast', nor 'slow'. I consider it to do the job pretty well, and it has an alright bit of poke for what I really 'need' (i.e. overtaking speed)

Granted I wouldn't want anything much slower for my current circumstances - and would happily have something quicker (wouldn't we all?!) - but it is fine for me as it is :D

On topic, I'd consider 'fast' a car that pulls and keeps on pulling at any speed. My uncle's R8 and F430 are the quickest cars I've ever been in and with those two the feeling of acceleration seemed effortless and endless.

LOL. I was in one side and out the other in less than a second.......they didn't bat an eyelid!!

I think as some have said it's all relative. Driving a mental quick car feels absolutely ballistic & constantly scary at first . But a year and a half on it feels like it needs to be a lot faster. You just get used to it.

But then when you drive a "normal" car, you wonder if the thing is broken it has so little grunt.

0-60 in 3.2 and 0-100 in 7 dead for me on my trumpet.

So i would say nippy more than anything.

Holding on above 120 however is a hardship although it will do around 160 flat out with its gearing i think.
 
200bhp/ton is probably decently quick.

whats fast on the road isnt always best or safe. i could be doing 90mph in a ford escort trying to cut in on a junction by slashing over 2 lanes of the motorway simply to make up 3 car places and get to my desination 12 seconds earlier.

yea i love to do that:)

Its an Audi S4 (B5) but with a forged & uprated RS4 (B5) engine dropped in it wired to a MOTEC engine management system plus tonnes of other upgrades / mods inc weight reduction. I really do drive it like a grandad though most of the time as I'm sure it warps the space time continuum when you give it some welly.

I spend an average of 50 hours+ per week driving things that get to 60mph.... never.

All bar 1, our vehicles are limited to either 52, 54 or 56mph.

So my V6 mondeo seems like a rocket ship after a 10-hour shift.

It's all relative.

When I'm at work I get completely pasted at the lights by Smart cars, 1.2 Corsas and even silly 16 year olds on mopeds.

So as a just compensation everything and anything is fair game at the lights when I'm in my car. I think the driver of the Cayman S was surprised at me trying to goad him into a traffic light GP the other week. Obviously he mullered me but it's all just a bit of fun that compensates for the impotent things I spend my work-life driving.
 
My 515bhp GTR is fast 0-60 and top speed. 0-60 is very close to bottom 4sec. Private road top speed around 170ish with a big single turbo more.
Ferrari and Porshe beater proven and seen the unhappy faces of rich men.

Unfortunately i have sold it and it is being taken away on friday as i cant afford £100 a week in petrol at my new job ;(
 
My Best Reaction Time from the drag strip a few days ago - I managed to get into the high 17s/low 18s with my Mini Cooper later on in the day. :D

I don't really consider my car fast as such, it will do 0-60 in around 6 seconds and it's limited to 155mph. But sensation aside it is pretty damn quick in reality, it does not feel it but if you look at how quick the speed is rising when you really floor it, it is. My car really comes into it's own when you're already rolling though, it's heavy so it's no Lotus Ellise ...but it's got a lot of oomph, 325lb/ft of torque and nigh on 300bhp makes it's self known when you really boot it from a rolling start.

It's all relative though really, I have driven and been around some pretty damn fast cars in my time which no doubt gives me a different perception to someone who hasn't. What strikes me about my car from time to time is when I compare it to a 'normal' run of the mill every day cars with a 1.6-2.0 litre engines ...then it really is quick. Comparing it to 550bhp twing turbo W12 Bentleys or Lotus Exiges or Audi R8s etc ...it's seems rather sensible.

A normal everyday car might as-well be standing still if I floor it in mine, the speed difference is huge. To get that sort of a difference again between mine and a faster car you would have to be in serious hyper car territory.

It's all relative really. A lot of people on these forums have fast cars when you look at what a 'normal' car is like. And I think a lot of people have a skewed perception because of this, consider what a 1.6 Ford Focus or a 2.0 Vectra diesel is like, something every day and run of the mill.

For me 'FAST' is someone who is capable of driving properly, correctly & quickly in a safe manner...Be it track or road.

How many times have you followed a quick car driven slow by an idiot round the corners...just to accelerate on the straight :mad:

Or those that drive quickly round corners and stray all over the road! :mad: Car drivers should all follow the bikers 'white line rule'.

Or the planks that think its cool to do 40+ thru a built up area! What does that prove?....That you'll kill whoever you hit!

Its a rare thing to see someone who drives FAST correctly given the car/road/conditions/environment.

We are all capable of driving quick in whatever cars we own, to get the adrenaline pumping, or make your heart race. But its those people that use their brains and have the talent to go quick safely that impress's.

I'm dying to roll up to the lights beside the Enzo we have currently residing in Barnsley (as absurd as that sounds lol).
