What is freesync?

Never mentioned being a massive anything andy, just that free is-free.

3D gaming on a 120Hz Sammy lightboost panel for £130, now that was a massive plus.:p

Are we talking about the 23A700D here Tommy :p?

Sure am, full 3D gaming kit that cost the exact same as Nvidias emitter and a set of goggles, and it can output 3D on both vendors-try that using a Nvidia 3D panel.:D

The ~£300 I never had to pay for a Nvidia 3D panel(at the time) went towards my 3D Sammy TV that's also hooked up through the wall, Tridef works on that too win, win, win.:D

I'm out now. Get the thread back on topic gents. ;)

I welcome Freesync (when it arrives) and thank AMD for bringing an alternative to Gsync.

except in this case free is actually $40

You can argue that yes, I take it the $40 is for Tridef?

AMD don't get a penny, which still equates to enabling 3D in the driver for free.

There are a few titles that do ingame 3D at zero extra cost as well, not many but a few.

Is that what the 'amd3d' thing is in games like sniper elite? Never read much into 3d on amd, mostly due to lack of monitor choice tbh.

Technically VESA are bringing it to us aren't they? AMD will just use it.

On a different note, I've got 3 of those Samsung 23A700D Monitors too. It was a nice bonus that they do 3D (for free too as you get an OEM Tridef for free with them). Can't remember how much I paid for them now, I think Gibbo was doing an offer for 3 of them and Samsung were running a cashback offer at the time.
Pity they won't support FreeSync really as I'll have to get rid of them to get that. Do need to think about going to a higher resolution too, once they get 120Hz variants.

I assumed AMD 3d tech when used with third party software like tridef works on pretty much all high refresh rate monitors?

I gave it a go on my projector, and it worked off the bat.

3d Is pretty at first but messes with my eyes not after long, so i never used it on any of my monitors. I am going to go for a higher res extra wide ratio monitor in the future and hope there is one available that supports freesync, for extra smoothness!

If that is the cost for tridef, came free with my Samsung monitor... so still free.

Except as of today, the only Samsung 3D monitor available for purchase is £100 more than an equivalent 3D vision kitted monitor

If were allowed to cherry pick nvidia vs AMD pricing from any point in history to make a point, then I choose 7970 pricing the day the GTX680 was launched
