What is it with certain words?

I've always noticed that it's a certain type of person that says "torlet" instead of "toilet"

That's how I say it..

I mistyped my original comment, and should have said "I hate when people type 'larger' instead of 'lager'. Though, I do recall hearing people saying /ˈlɑːʤə/ rather than / lɑːgər/.

i see

in that case i am with you :)

I'm pretty terrible as spelling and grammar but it still annoys me when i see people messing up lose and loose.. I see this constantly.

It's not something that bothers me, I generally can interpret what was ment to be said and think nothing of it.

People who say "somethink" on the other hand need to die painfully.

People who spell 'receive' as 'recieve'. Definitely and defiantly is also annoying... how the hell can you get it wrong?

They probably learned that stupid i before e rule (which doesn't really work anyway) but forgot the exception.

Also, can't stand people who say dalek. It's Dalek!

If you're going to use those links as proof then you're admitting you don't say it properly considering he says them differently. Minority where, your town, this thread or the English speaking world?

One has a longer drawn out 'r'. In neither of them, does he add an 'er' on the end. You're wrong. Accept it.

There is a girl at work who uses momentarily in the wrong context all the time and it really frustrates me.

"I will do it momentarily" NO YOU WON'T! You will do it in a moment! It's correct use should be "for a moment" as in "I blacked out momentarily" not "in a moment".

OKAY

See a doctor, gets your ears syringed out, then listen again and learn to pronounce it properly. You didn't answer the minority bit or did you make that up?

Edit: Out of interest, at school are you taught to drop the r at the end or ignore it? It's there for a reason. What about "computer", do you call it a "computah"?
