Hello all,

I need to sell my car privately and I have no idea what it's worth. I've had a look in AutoTrader and prices vary a fair bit. Hopefully you can help...

It's a 3DR S reg 1998 SEAT Ibiza Estilo in red.
62k miles (low for it's age),
I've got some service history but not a complete log from when I purchased it. I imagine this will hit the price a fair bit?
MOT is due in Feb.
6 months tax.
Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser with installation certificate.
Remote Central Locking.
Electric Windows.
Alloy wheels (albeit somewhat kerbed).

Overall condition of the car is pretty good. The clear lacquer over the paint is starting to peel at the top corner of the passenger door but hardly noticeable.

The car has sailed through every MOT with the only problem I've had in over 3 years has been the power steering fail and that was solved with a replacement power steering pump.

I was thinking of advertising it somewhere in the region of £1600+?

Part Ex prices ( Glass's - via Vauxhall website )

Part-exchange Price:
Excellent condition:
£560

Average condition:
£490

Below average condition:
£415

Not totally sure where that £1600 figure has come from really, its not worth anything like that, however i would say that i think its worth more than the figures above.

I'd advertise it at £995 and see how it goes, with a view to take £900 for it.

The ones on AutoTrader don't look anywhere near as good as condition as mine, but maybe I'm biased?

I thought about advertising it a bit higher, as no-one pays the advertised price and then I'd get around £1300 which I'd be happy with.

I know this is from a dealer but this is lesser spec'd than mine and it's going for £1695..

You can try what you wish, but its my belief that its worth around £900-1000. If you do get any more then congratulations, but to do so you will have to wait, and have the car sitting around for ages while you wait for a buyer who is willing to pay an inflated price.

Throw it on the free ones like PH & Gumtree also, at a higher price, may as well try for a higher "bite" on the free ones, nothing to lose.

Well considering I have justbought a 98 mondeo, FSH 97k, alloys (mint) remote central locking, aircon, Alarm, 3 new tyres, new wishbones, oil & filter and aux drive belt for £690

I think anything over £700 is asking a bit much tbh, with no full srvice history either...

Older second hand cars are worth jack squat nower days...
