What is limiting my overclock?

Well done (though did you mean 3.3Ghz?),

Coolers:

TT 120 - does the job. I have just upped the vcore on my E2160 to 1.5V and clocked it to 3.15Ghz, and Orthos did not get above 69C. I did not enjoy installing it one bit, stock fan a bit noisy (I am very sensitive to it) so replaced it with scythe S-Flex - if noise is a factor to you, then factor in the extra cost. Big - check your case size

Thermalright Ultra 120 or Extreme. Marginally better performance than the TT, more expensive as it does not come with a fan. Big- check your case size.

Sythe Infinity/Mugen. Not quite as performant as the 2 above, BUT, no requirement to fit a backplate on the base of the motherboard, so reduced installation grief. Monster - check your case size!

If 80degrees was unsafe Intel would make the cpu throttle below that and not 100.

That's my theory anyway :p

agreed but intel doesnt recommend more than a certain voltage for a CPU which when clocking you certainly are going to exceed and therefore the max safe temp is assuming a normal voltage.. hense why people recommend a lower max temp

That is a fair point Pneumonic.

I do not mind removing the motherboard to fit the cooler.

I will measure my case (Lian-Li PC60) and report back.

I am going to search the forums but have many people here made there own fan controllers? I am thinking it could be an interesting little project and I could use a Lian-Li blanking plate to house it.

Would orthos fail on a 100% stable system?

What if that system was running other software at the same time?

EDIT- Just checked BIOS and I have actually been running the memory at 4-4-4-12!

EDIT(2) - Perhaps the cooling situation isn't helping so I may upgrade that before anything?

EDIT(3) - The big 120mm coolers just won't fit.

Pretty sure the CPU is 100% stable at 3000mhz as just did a 34hour Orthos test with no errors.

I have just upped the MCH voltage a tiny bit and will try the blend test again.
