What is max supported memory clock speed for this mobo and cpu?

Hi all - what is the maximum supported memory clock speed for the combination of Asus X99 Deluxe 3.1 and i7-5930k (2011-v3)? The tech specs for the mobo say it's 3200MHz but Corsair RAM goes up to 4000MHz. What is the maximum compatible clock speed that I can buy here and what determines that? Thanks.
 
I tested a lot. 3200mhz is fine without issue. Going higher on quad in X99 becomes more and more difficult. I would go 3200mhz tops for a 24/7 stable system that you don't want to fuss about tuning sub timings etc.
 
Thanks 8pack! Restricting to 3200MHz on Corsair Dominator Platinum (not sure what other makes I should consider at these clock speeds - please feel free to make suggestions) I see two latencies.

15-17-17-35

Will choosing the latter make much difference over the former?
 
3200Mhz is about the only ratio on X99 that isn't at least partially borked. Probably never know why, at least not unless you're Intel. Real world performance you won't notice much if anything between the two, no
 
I would take the better kit. Broadwell E coming soon you may want to upgrade etc down the line.
 
No point getting the fastest ram(Mhz) you can if your not going to get the lower timings you can.
Speed(Mhz) and timings go hand in hand.
 
Very true p4clock! Ok. It seems like a majority vote on the faster timings then. :) Stocks of the capacities and dimms that I wanted were lower (or unavailable) for the faster timings. I'll see if I can find them. I guess the same argument could apply to 5930k and 5960x but the price difference there is massive. :)

That would depend on your needs 6 core vs 8 core.
i think your more along the lines of 5820k vs 5930k same cpu however the 5930k as more pcie lines. if you running more than 2 GPU's or lots of pcie cards then 5930k. if only running 2 gpus and system is just gaming 5820k

I have opted for the 5930k so i can run crossfire, sound card and m.2 without the gpu's running at 8x 8x.

That's absolutely correct p4clock. I guess I meant the argument of "getting better components to not bottleneck your system in future" similar to what 8pack was saying above but your comparison makes sense in light of your argument too. I'm going for 5930k specifically for 40 lanes as I expect to have multiple pcie cards (2x gpu, nvme card, further storage and potentially other cards). I'm also wondering in light of 8pack's response whether it's worth waiting for broadwell-e. It's scheduled for Jan 2016 but who knows when all components will become available in retailers. Regarding ram I'll try to find stock of the capacities I want of the lower timing. I'm thinking Corsair Dominator Platinum in either 2x8GB or 4x4G. Ideally I wanted to get 32GB so that I wouldn't limit the future maximum expansion to 64GB without running out of slots but it's proving a bit expensive. Let's see.
 
I would go with 4 x 4gb you can always add extra if you need and go 8 x 4gb. if you not doing memory intensive projects you system will be obsolete before you need 32gb for normal use.

i have gone 5930k after my last system was running 8x 4x on gpu's because i have a pcie wifi card(1x).... 290's dont play nice at 4x.

if you can wait for broadwell-e do it, if you dont go a broadwell-e cpu at least it will flood the market with used haswell-e.

also forget bottleneck's there will always be something holding back something
 
Ok. Fair point. I do web browsing, programming and gaming but unlikely to need >16GB. Found 4x4GB of CL15 for only £30 more than CL16 so will get that. And I just read somewhere that the broadwell-e release may be delayed until Feb/Mar. So not waiting for that but it's good to hear that "The Broadwell-E processors will have full support on the existing X99 platform that consists of LGA 2011-3 socket based motherboards and DDR4 memory compatibility" so upgrades will be possible later. Thanks all!

Mixing memory kits at that speed will get you into a world of pain most likely. You won't hear anything on Broadwell-E till at least February

Yeah. Not intending to mix memory. Whatever I buy now I will use for the foreseeable future whether that's 16 or 32GB. And decided to go with haswell-e. Cheers.
