Hi there i,m looking at upgrading my motherboard ,and i have been looking & reading about the nforce 650 & 680 SLI Models ,what is meant by the term SLI ? and is it really needed ?

SLI is having 2 nVidia graphics cards working together to achieve one end product, basically you use two of the same card in in theory it will double your framerate.
As you can imagine its not quite as simple as that, but theres loads of info around you can read up on.

Its not essential, and only really high end users actually have a reason to have it.

thanks a lot

thanks for that answer ,so what is the newest and best type of chipset out on a Intel motherboard ,which would you recommend ?

680i is arguably the best and newest chipset. but I'd recommend the 650i chipset because it's just a cut-down budget version. The Asus P5N-E SLI is a great 650i board.

I have to agree here,

Even if you do not need SLI then the 650i is a great choice.

You could always go for a 965 based mobo like a DS3.
