What is "negative hyperthreading"?

The other day I was in Maplin looking for a replacement battery for an airsoft gun scope I have, different hobby I'll stay away from that...

I was stuck behind a rather large man in a rather long conversation with the man behind the counter making me wait longer, they were going on and on about their Graphics Cards and CPU, been there, but not to this level, I'm sure one of them had an unhealthy attraction to his CPU... anyway I'm veering off again...

One of them mentioned a new CPU coming out that had negative hyperthreading, I'm not a super geek as to know how the CPU does what it does, but I know what hyperthreading is, but negative hyperthreading boggles my mind... Can anyone help me?

If it bothers you you can always turn it off. I wouldn't bother. It's shown in few benchmarks that it decrease performance. by about 0.5-1fps, but I would say this is margin of error while recording results.

However if you were to stream you will be getting more fps while you play and stream

Nah, he definitely said "negative hyperthreading" his friend did ask him what it was, but I was really annoyed and couldn't care less when a woman walked over to help me I left before I heard the explanation...

Google turned up nothing for me either, that's why I asked here. Thanks for your help. The jargon made no sense in my head. It was probably something he made up to make his own PC specs sound cooler to the kid with the CPU erection...
 
It's the process of taking a single thread and splitting it across two cpu threads. Obviously you cant just split that work up so i think its more of a co processor type scenario. Skylake has this tech I believe.
 
Sorry to be pedantic but negative from and i7 would make it have/use 0 cores not 4. Unless you say negative as in it doesn't have hyperthreading but why would that even be a thing.
 
Hyperthreading means that each of your CPU cores can process 2 threads simultaneously, effectively giving you twice as many cores. Your CPU has 4 cores, therefore your operating system will detect 8 threads. Most games won't benefit from more than 2 cores anyway, so hyperthreading won't help much in that regard. If you do video-editing or something that benefits from many threads, you'll definitely benefit.

Not what the OP asked.
 
Ah read up on "inverse hyperthreading" .... so rather than boosting multi-threaded apps, inverse hyperthreading boosts single threaded processes by co-opting unused cores to make a single virtual "super-core".
