What is Smart Casual?

Going liquid tomorrow (I know most people think it is rubbish but that is the only club in my town) and the dress code says Smart Casual.

My interpretation of Smart Casual is shirt, jeans and shoes. I checked on Liquid site about that night. It says smart casual, no hoodies, caps and sportswear. By them saying no sportswear I thought no trainers for that night but the flyer up on the site says jeans and trainers are ok. So trainers are allowed for that night but it's still smart casual? Slightly confused so if someone could enlighten me it will be great.

Thanks.

Very few places seem to clamp down on trainers these days, I think they're pretty much accepted in "smart casual" places that used to be all about shoes only.

Trainers that are acceptable normally are big Nike deck shoes, basically anything thats new. you wont get into a club wearing any old trainers

It's very subjective and the majority of places are entirely too snobbish when it comes to the definition. To me, a decent pair of jeans, trainers and a good t-shirt is smart and casual, yet some places say all this crappy 'chavalike' sportswear is smart-casual.

Go in Sports Casual instead:

That's quite rare around these parts. Any bar in town that is 'managed' by security will not accept trainers on Friday/Saturday nights. Even places like Lloyds and Wetherspoons.

Smart casual simply means, in the normal sense, that you dont have to wear a suit and tie.

In terms of club entry it means nice leather shoes (not trainers), Trouses/chinos and a long sleeved shirt with a collar.

Depends, turning up in a pair of running Nikes or skater shoes and you'll probably struggle to get in, have a pretty smart pair of trainers and you'll be fine.

Much like jeans - turn up in ripped jeans, combats or covered in paint and you won't get in, smart pair of jeans and you'll be ok.

And same with T-shirt, scruffy freebie T-shirt you got from a Fresher's fair or a £2 T-shirt from ASDA - no - smart T-shirt, fine.

If you don't have 'smart casual' stuff, then shoes, trousers and shirt with a collar it is :p
