What is success?

Since thatcher people have grown up with greed is good mantra, sell your own mother if you have to, to make a quid. Society is broken it's all about who has the most money.

Ocuk looks down on people who don't earn six figures, someone actually said to me in a Thread I must be "unskilled" coz our joint income is only £69k wtf, when the truth is we are both happy and degree educated, we just care for people rather than sell them

I know a lot of couples on less than £69k - that's quite a good wage I'd say. Depends where you are, of course, but around here that's plenty.

Success is about setting goals and achieving them. It doesn't really matter what the goals are. If you succeed at one, set yourself another.

What He said is sensible.

Succes is getting what you want from life.

Most people don't know what they want from life till it's too late to get it.

So don't be one of those people.

Job wise i am at the very bottom doing a pretty menial factory job but quite enjoy it ,the big thing is that I've always been a Yorkshireman in love with Cornwall and managed to get down here mortgage free and found a cheap place with a good amount of land.
So tommorow and every few days I'm surfing at polzeath and that's my own personal success even with my rubbish career history

to leave the world better off [no matter how small the contribution] for your prescence.

this doesn't nessecarily mean what many assume it means ie have kids, it just means that you've given more than you've taken to the world.

Success to me would be balancing everything I hold dear in life whilst still living by my personal values that I have developed over the years. Money is part of that, family and friends is another big part. Keeping myself entertained with things I enjoy is another part.

This is me, 100%, so i've defaulted to make as much money as possible.

Even though I work hard and yet never seem to have any money, I'm one of the most successful people I know - although lots of other people wouldn't agree. But that's because I'm happy and that, to me, is success.

I have two genuinely lovely little daughters that challenge me and make me smile, I have a job that usually interests me (but pays peanuts!) and allows me to help others (I often do work for free), and I have a soulmate for a wife.

I've seen plenty of high earners that only live for money and lose sight of real happiness.

My aim was to retire before 40 - level complete!

Now my aim has changed to get a 1st class degree and Phd afterwards - ongoing!

I've got a lovely wife, two great sons and a brilliant daughter, an adequate house and a couple of nice (to me) cars - I am very content. I can't think of anything else I desire, so knowledge is my next goal.

That sounds great - well done :-)
