What is taking AMD so long?

i'd love to know how many 690's get sold, not trolling thats a genuine question. If I could max it out then I'd probably want one, but for a little less (say £750 max) and i've got very few games (if any) that could make proper use of it.

The only reason i've stuck to nVidia so far is because I paid for a 3d monitor and glasses, so thats a dead £400 if I decided to go ATI now. Plus my pc is green and black :D

I'm just waiting for reviews and prices tomorrow, but i'm guessing prices will be high and i'm going to wait it out..... AGAIN....

To be fair to AMD the 7970 is half a year old now and still able to compete and even beat Nvidia's just launched flagship GPU's while being cheaper.
That's because Nvidia "downgraded" the spec of GTX680/released the GTX670Ti as GTX680, as the only need a card to beat on par with 7970, rather then beating it by a large margin and selling at a higher price level making them hard to shift and out of even more peoples' price range.

yeah so 'nVidia' say... i did not believe it then and i still don't

The BIG Kepler everyone was talking about is probably nothing more then your usual nVidia,- AMD Hatin.

If it exists it will simply be a larger DIE with more cores, use more power and cost more.

Big deal, growing the DIE space for more cores resulting in higher performance at a cost of higher power usage is pretty much the same as opting for a 2L engine in a car as opposed to a 1.6L. nothing special about it.

Its just hype and it seems you bought the nVidia is God idea hock line and sinker.

No disrespect :)

judging by his sig hes got a 5850 so I'm not sure 'hook line and sinker' is the right phrase :D

But I get what you mean, and they haven't left themselves much room for price increase either...

The 7970 is better value for money than the 680, but the 680 is better noise and power wise. They're similar on performance. Pretty much.

More interesting will be the 670, which looks like it could be very very close to 7970 performance for 320. Depends on prices as of yet...

At current prices, yes i agree. i also agree with you on the second. which is part of my reason for this post.

it looks to me like value for money is heading in nVidias direction as things start to filter down, unless AMD make drastic price cuts, which i'm sure they will as they have had plenty on time with higher prices and they would probably still make a solid margin on them.

Its now time for them to think about the 8### series, get whats left of the yet to be released 7### series on the shelves, be done with it and move on to the next.

Word on the street is nvidia is having problems producing the cards, and thus the reason AMD would be so expensive is simply because there is a lack of competition. Good on them if it's working, a stronger AMD is better for the market.

Big kepler will be burdened by compute and a large core, i lean more towards the can't than wont. Did they downgrade the 8800 series on launch? No.

That's because 8800 series were launch at the same time as the HD2000 series, where as this time AMD rushed their HD7000 series to shelf with unready drivers, just so that can "launch" sooner than Nvidia cards, AND give them the excuse to pit their new gen cards against the old gen GTX580 and stack their prices on top of it...which in my opinion is ridiculous.

As far as I remember, this is the first time either one of either company pull something like this...coming from business strategy point of view, I can understand why AMD pulled something like this...but from consumer receive end point of view, it just plain sucks. I am a AMD user myself, but I wouldn't bury my sense, and go and say AMD's fart smells like perfume like some people seem to do.

Bottomline is....AMD cards were overpriced as a result of piting against an old gen card, and Nvidia's overpriced because AMD already set the price point of the new 28nm cards. But at least Nvidia is competing against same gen card, unlike what AMD pulled. The current price that AMD cards are at should had been when it was on launch.
