Hi guys,

As per question, don't normally use torrents but I have a large torrent file to download (legally) but need a torrent program, so please can you recommend a decent and safe program, ie virus, malware free etc....

Thanks :)

uTorrent
Deluge

Latest versions are fine. Ads can be disabled.

Thanks,

I'm using uTorrent 2.2.1 as per the poster above, and it seems to be working ok?

Are torrent clients like windows versions, ie they have better security with each new release? Should I be using the newest version?

Thanks :)

You will need to read the installer options very carefully. If you fail to deselect the right thing you will end up with adware stuffed into your browser.
With the newer versions of uTorrent the adware is very hard to remove.

uTorrent itself is a nice torrent client but the malware from the installer combined with in app ads has turned me away. Deluge is Open Source, multi platform and easier to use for beginners.

Ah right, thanks :)

I used an earlier version and de-selected the extras install option, so hopefully it'll be ok? I'm due a windows re-install soon so that should sort it.

Just hope the file I downloaded isn't compromised? Nothing on Kaspersky though?

Thanks for the info :)

You'll be fine as long as you grab the latest version from the official site. Deselect the adware as you're going through the installation process.

After it's installed, options > preferences > advanced

offers.left_rail_offer_enabled - false
offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled - false

Can I ask how you people are getting on with qBittorrent as I am thinking of removing utorrent?

I made the stupid mistake of updating it over the past few months and I notice that the download speed doesn't add up. If it says its downloading at 1Mb/s for example, the rate the file is really being downloaded at is around 1-200k or less.

It makes you wonder what's going on in the background especially with all the advertising and other crap is has in it now.

I could go back to an early edition like mentioned above but I like to try something else.

The download speed charts include protocol traffic as well as actual data.

As for qBittorrent, I like that it is lightweight but it just isn't as flexible as UTorrent.
As an example I set UT to download to a folder and move it to a new folder when complete, it automatically downloads to a subfolder labelled the same as the torrent title.
Whereas with QB I just tried the same thing and it was having none of it, even with the "Create folder with torrent title" (paraphrase) option enabled.
Also I could not drag and drop a torrent into the program, I had to use the PLUS icon.
This is unworkable for me as I have 9500+ torrents to manage, I'll be damned if I'm loading each one in to it individually.

It's 99.9% there, i'd love to switch from UT but QB is just lacking the finishing touches for me.

Cheers for that.

What version of utorrent are you currently using?

I do exactly the same thing in using a temp folder and once completed, I have it moved to a storage drive on a remote server. If this can't be done with qb, then its not worth me trying it.

QB can do what you are after if you are downloading a fresh torrent, it just can't seem to apply it to stuff i've already downloaded.

An example would be X:\Complete\file1\file1.mp3
If I add the file1.torrent even with the subfolder option enabled it still defaults to X:\Complete\file1.mp3

I'm using the very latest uTorrent, 3.3 build 29677.
As has been said, just watch the installer closely and when installed turn off the ads and apps in the advanced area and you are all set.

uTorrent. I have the latest version but stuck with 3.2 on the desktop (although I'm using the 2.0.4 skin :p). As said above, you only need to tweak a couple of lines in the advanced options to get rid of the ads.
