What is the best cpu I can fit in my PC?

Maybe I'm too late, but did you try overclocking your 2.6 cpu? It should reach 3.0~3.2Ghz, as most northwoods are good clockers.

I know most Dell mobos don't allow you to change the fsb, but clockgen should work ok (free to download).

Personally I wouldn't bother - it's not really work paying out for another ~22% speed or so. A better option would be to save your cash for when you can afford a more meaningful upgrade.

the bus speed difference will make quite a difference, you could try mentioning to ebay about the way he advertised his sale. be very carefull of heat the 3.2GHz+ CPUs tend to have a higher thermal rating!

I emailed the first guy after the sale telling him I didnt intend on paying as he falsley advertised the cpu and told him to try second chancing it. He replied back saying it was an honest mistake that ebay wouldnt let him change as someone had bid on it already and that he would try second chancing it.

So thats sorted out.

Ive paid for the 3.2 last night and rumaged around and found my arctic silver 5. This upgrade wont be that expensive if I can find someone to buy my 2.6 800fsb northwood. I recon I could probably sell it for around £40 making this upgrade very cheap indeed.

I'll put it in the members market once ive got the 3.2 setup.
