HI All
I am looking to buy a mechanical keyboard for gaming. I would be using to play FPS and strategy games. Also I would prefer the keys to be cherry mx red switches. My budget on spending on a keyboard is £200. What would you guys recommend to buy?
Any advice would be appreciated thanks.
This is all subject to personal preference really, I mean do you want tenkeyless, do you want a 75% or even a 60% board? It's all down to you and your personal preferences.
Personally, I only differentiate between two different keyboards:
* Keycool 84
* Noppoo Choc Mini
I use these because I love the small 75% keyboards and I don't have a need for a numpad and I have that option built into both of these keyboards with the use of a numpad control. Both keyboards have the function keys that I need, so yeah.
But like I said, it's a matter of personal preference! The bad thing is most of the good keyboards are not available in the UK and you need to order them from China or the US and that can be annoying at times, waiting 3-4 weeks is a little aggravating at times.
A UK layout is not needed that much anymore to be honest with you, I use a US layout and the keyboard feels a lot more natural to me. If you still want to use a UK layout you can, you just have to remember that the @/" are different, as is the # key, but they are minor things.
One last thing to note is your Cherry key choice, I think the MX Cherry Red is the best gaming switch on the market, sadly at the moment I am using Black switches and coming from Red? I absolutely hate it, I do not like Blacks. To me? they feel too heavy, too resistant and not as fun to type on, but I do find myself making less mistakes.
A quick bit of clarity:
* reds - amazing for gaming, very light, linear, non-tactile.
* blacks - 'apparently' good for gaming, same as reds, require more force to actuate, linear, non-tactile.
* blues - best typing switch, tactile and clicky, not the best for gaming though especially double tapping etc (tapping the same key twice in quick succession.)
* browns - not sure, never used them!
