What is the best Media Player for windows 11 ?

I know you can still use the old media play but its dated and l still need to install another app like VLC or KM PLayer. due to codecs but they can play everything the issue is I would like a something I can use to play and organise all my Video and Music also burn and rip CD, ( not sure if you can do this with DVDs).

Whats the difference through the plex web APi you can watch & do everything VLC can do?

what are you looking to gain by using local app?
I only have movies on the server.
I need something local because so I can organise my music and some movies and want to be able to still watch them without having a internet connection when I'm away. basically like we could do in the past.

sure in that case:

i used to use this for music But it used to work very well for all content
Thanks, I used this in the past and tried it yesterday but it no longer works that well, the biggest issue was the playing videos, the would only show part in one corner and no work correctly buffering and sound issues, so I did not bother checking everything out. I dont know if its just a windows 11 issues.

PowerDVD is excellent. Using it on Windows 10 but the latest version works on Windows 11 also. Always liked their software.

It plays everything without the traffic cone icon :D

Thanks.
I've used it in the past and it was one I would always use but with VLC and media player I stopped using it as much, re-installed it yesterday and found Cyberlink PowerDVD the best I have found so far (does everything the others do) a lot faster than it use to be, the only issue is I don't have a clue how to rip and burn discs on it.

I've been using EVR Custom presenter for years but recently been trying out madVR and been pleased with the results apart from in one area. Seems madVR heavily uses the GPU 3D engine instead of the video decoder engine. Which means my 3080 Ti FE's fans ramp up when watching a video which is really annoying as the FE fans are quite loud when ramping up and not something you want during a quiet scene in a video etc.

Here's my task manager with EVR and then with madVR, you can see which uses which. The EVR keeps the GFX card fans off as it's not using 3D power which is what I'd expect. Why does madVR rely on 3D acceleration?

I've switched back to EVR now as a result.

I've been testing with: Releases · Aleksoid1978/VideoRenderer · GitHub instead of MadVR, might be worth a test see if it makes a difference for you.

Cheers that looks like it works very well, balanced usage between 3D and video decode engine, GPU fans remain passive too, so far so good and the frametime graph in the stats overlay looks to be slightly smoother too with none of the consistent micro-spikes the EVR-CP has (even though visually the video is smooth). Looks like That is also better for HDR to SDR conversion than madVR too.

What settings are you using from within? I've opted for this which looks like a nice sharp and detailed picture when full screen:

You could just turn the settings down if you don't want the fans to ramp up. For image upscaling use NGU Sharp low (luma doubling), the only difference you will notice on higher settings is your power bill. If you don't want to lower the settings you could set up a profile on MSI Afterburner to limit your clock speed with the voltage/frequency curve, e.g. 1250MHz at 700mV. When I was using higher settings, limiting the clock speed significantly reduced the amount of power it was using and was still fast enough that it didn't drop any frames. You could also set a custom fan curve to try and lower the noise.

I've now switched to MPC Video Render as per above. I've found that it is just better and more efficient than madVR, and the HDR passthrough works direct to the monitor which goes into HDR mode when a HDR video is opened, then switches back to SDR mode after it is closed. Exactly as things should be

madVR is pretty efficient with the NGU Sharp low option, calling it low is deceptive as it's still very high quality. Unfortunately the GDDR6X memory chips will still consume a bit of extra power though, on a 3070 Ti it consumes 55w average compared to 25w on my old 1070.

Hmm interesting, if I encounter any issues with MPC renderer then I will switch back to madVR but as it stands right now, have already uninstalled it I'm afraid after being really impressed with MPC renderer!
