what is the best stuff to use to stick an ssd in a down facing caddy?

went to town earlier and picked up some bits i needed for my computers and while i was in the shop i saw a 30gb sata 3 transend ssd, thought the price was fair and was intrigued by it, anyways ive fitted it to my itx system and currently installing windows, but ive had to use a few bits of brown tape as i dont know where my electrical tape is, but its seeming secure, however i dont feel long term i should use that tape, so what would be the practical and best stuff to use?


before anyone might change the topic, only chose the 30gb as it was affordable and figured with this system and a usb dock, i dont need to have a mass storage drive, but i will see how it goes.
 
You don't really need to secure an SSD. As long as it has the SATA data/power cables attached then you can just leave it loose in a drive bay.
 
I did have mine inside a nice quick release caddy that fits into a 5.25” bay... but then I added another GPU and had to just put it loose into an empty drive bay. Had no negative consequences as far as I can tell.
 
+1 for the double sided foam tape.

SSDs have no moving parts so it's not important that they are fitted securely into a caddy like a traditional hard drive. You can leave it dangling anywhere you want so long as the cables don't plop out.

With a little bit of double sided foam tape you can stick it to the floor of the case, the side panel, anywhere you fancy really.

yeah i know you can just plonk them anywhere so long the cables reach, but unfortunately i dont think i could get away with that long term wise as i am trying to keep cables from the cpu fan as it is, but this case has a space for a front fan which im going to get.


this is basically what i meant by an upside down caddy, there there may be a fair bit of space, i havent properly sorted the cabling out if i even can, i just want to make sure i dont catch the cooler as ive done that few times before on bigger builds.

this was actually flat lastnight, so has dropped like this over night it seems.
 
There’s the holes for the hdd, so maybe I could use cable ties, I am thinking though with the space maybe I could just fit one one of my hard drives I use often and stick my ssd to that given how thin ssd drives are.
 
the computer isnt running in that pic or since i made this thread, im trying to work on 3 computers at once, so dont worry ha, i did a poor job with the tape as i did it quickly to test the drive make sure it actually worked being used and all.
 
Velcro / Hook+Loop tape works great(buy a roll, more cost efficient), using it to mount my SSD to the underside of the optical drive bay(and also to secure a mechanical HDD on the floor of the case).

i will look at the velcro stuff as that does seem more common use, but i will also in the mean time see if i can have it balanced without the sata cables catching the cooler as i dont have any smaller cables, but also if i put a hdd in aswell, then see how i can make it work.
 
ssd doesn't have any moving parts, so it doesn't really matter where it's situated, nor whether it's tied/stuck down, as long as it doesn't get in the way of fans?
