I am struggling to find the right ideal broadband. I currently use TalkTalk, I get about 0.8 Mb/s download speed and recently I have faced a lot of issues with it.

Me and my brother are the ones who use most of the internet. We both game and he often downloads movies and games which slow my internet and ruin my ping when I game to around 2000 ping (in a lol game). I checked for alternative internet providers and I noticed plusnet is good but when I checked some of the reviews; they were mostly negative and some positive (The overall score was 3.5/5 rating). I use TalkTalk and the rating here is 2.5/5 rating, I desperately want to switch because I cannot use the internet when he decides to watch a video on youtube.

I am kind of leening towards Virgin Media 152 Mbs deal but I want a ISP which is good for 2 gamers and 2 filthy casuals (who browse social media and stuff)

Every ISP has good and bad reviews, in general though Virgin/Sky/Plusnet are all good and offer packages which may suit you.

If you can get the 152mb package then makes sense to go for it purely because of the speed you will get which will be good for gaming and everything else!

get Virgin and a GOOD router.

if you want to know what other ISPs are like, ask neighbours, no point in asking about people's experience on the other side of the country. there are always people with both good and bad experience with any ISP.

also, if you have bad experience, you're more likely to be vocal about it, whereas if you're happy with the service, you don't have much need to brag about it (online). that's why reviews for any network are mostly negative.

If you can get BT FTTC, then Plusnet is the one to go for. You don't get any slowdowns and the connection is very stable.

Virgin Media would then be my next bet, they're great but if you're in a congested area it can really affect your speeds and latency. Best way is to check the Virgin forums on your area to see how other users find it.

Then onto ADSL, I find Plsunet is the best for cash. There's Zen as well but last time I checked that costs quite a bit. Plusnet has good customer support which is a plus, I contacted Sky and BT a few months ago and it was quite stressful dealing with them.

I would also consider buying your own router with QoS as well, if your brother downloads a lot regulary then that can badly affect latency due to maxing out your connection.

I am not sure why this hasn't been mentioned but If you get 0.8mbit with Talktalk then you need to look at why, this is likely nothing to do with the isp. (FWIW I am with talktalk and I find their service absolutely acceptable, 76mbit at all times) All other open reach isps (ie, everyone bar Virgin Media) will use your phone line and you may find that they all offer the same level of service.

Op, plug your telephone number into a line checker (Google "BT wholesale adsl checker) and post back the speed ranges and options it gives you.
