What is the diameter of standard ethernet cable ?

Hi guys

I need to fix a length of ethernet cable to skirting board, and was just wondering what is the diameter of standard ethernet cat5 cable.

I have tried googling etc, and am getting mixed results . Anyone have any idea? Just so that I can buy the right size plastic cable slips.

typically 5mm, though you can get a flat profile for under carpets as well.


Staples for a cable fixing gun as used to fix alrm cables etc are neater than hammer in clips and it possible to make the cable look like its part of the skirting board if you avoid the lumps and bumps of hammer in clips.

I've recently been looking at flat cables on eBay. think they quote the height as 1.4mm. not sure what a standard cable is
