What is the difference between Samsung 850 EVO and 850 Pro?

I'm thinking of buying a new SSD drive. I currently have a 256GB Samsung 840 Pro and have been very happy with it so I'm thinking of getting a new 1TB Samsung 850 Pro SSD as my new drive. But I'm wondering whether I need the Pro version or whether the EVO version would suit me fine?

If someone can enlighten me on the differences I would be really grateful thanks

double the endurance and warranty and a bit faster, basically. ie, the 1Tb 850 evo is rated at 150tb / 5 year warranty. The pro is 300tb / 10 year. use samsung magician to look at the total writes on your 840 to see if you need more than 150tb. I've had an 830 for 4 years as a boot drive and written 22tb to it....so quite a way to go yet.

Hmm. Due to the work I do being quite critical I think I'll pay for the improved write endurance of the Pro even if I might not technically need it. Video files get big and copying them around the place will quickly eat up the write endurance. As long as my new computer lasts 5 - 6 years I'll be happy.

I'd recommend a SSD from the 960 range if you're buying new - the 850 drives are all old hat SATA6 drives.

If you get the 48-layer V3 850, it's apparently a bit faster than the 850 Pro.

Your correct but how are going to find out which 850 evo`s will have the newer chips. Which are the same one`s being used on the 960 evo`s 500GB and above.

The box is different. Atm prices are the same between brick and mortar and online retailers, for the 850 1TB at least. So pop to a store and ask to look at the box

I am good with my 850evo 500GB for now may be next year when we will have 64-layer. New chips should be out by late summer.
