What is the next WOW?

Warhammer online will fall flat on its face in a pile of waffles, rubbish and sweaty overweight figurine addicts.

Its crap, move on.

Conan has a chance, but the combat is crap, click swing, click continue swing combo, click continue swing combo, click continue swing combo, and continue.

WoW was unique in that it brought millions to MMORPGs rather than the ~500k players that would normally get into successful games. WoW basically brought all the Warcraft fans into the market so I doubt we'll ever see "the next WoW", especially with a lot of games being clones of the gameplay.

Although I'm looking forward to Age of Conan I think the next big thing will be Warhammer Online as it has a large fan base from the Warhammer games on a similar level (at least in the US/Europe) that Warcraft had. :)

Then again you could say the same thing about Star Wars Galaxies and look what they did to that. :(

As apposed to WoW's amazing combat  at least its trying to do something new.

And whats with all the hate for people that enjoy playing TT warhammer and warhammer 40k  compelling and detailed argument against WAR though.....

WoWs system is extremely effective as it minimises the effect of lag, particularly for ranged damage dealers. And anyone that claims that it lacks skill hasn't PvP'd.

I've pvp'd quite a lot and it takes some skill to a degree but the rest is just server values and control'd by luck.

Reed, i could go into huge detail about how crap Warhammer is going to be, but NDA restricts me. But trust me when i say it will be rubbish.

EDIT: And to clear up, THE IS NO STAR WARS MMO FROM BIOWARE!!! check there site.

I was in the beta also and while it had its flaws it was definitely shaping up very well. Then again the only other game i properly beta tested was Vanguard so :p :o

I wasn't saying it was ineffective in that respect i was merely impling that it didn't revolutionise or really change too much the combat sysyems that previous MMO's had implemented.

Lag? Latency, same thing but in the end, I don't believe it has any sort, if you for some reason had 300ms + you will feel the effects of a slow response to any of your moves.

If that's what you're talking about?

WoW will never be mastered, because it took a simple concept from EQ, polished with the Blizzard polish, made it 100% accessible and put good lore in it.

You find me a game that does that and your on the road to a winner.

I pvp'd a lot. I would guess it comes down to 50% class and level 25% skill 25% luck and getting the inititive.

group pvp is all about team work and is more 'team' skill orientated.

wow was very good when it came out, really hated the community, loot whores, and diabolically run guilds and quit. As for the analogy with CS, I think is not really correct, what about Quake? Doom? The only analogy is that better a game is perceived by numbers who play it, automatically mean is the best, and usually the worse taken impartially; a bit like saying some boy band are the best because they sell the most records.

If you want to beat WoW this is how you do it.

First of you build a very good story line, make sure your able to edit it without making space paladins.

Then you create the world, lots of detail, lots of interactive elements and nice graphics, not crysis like.

Then you choose the classes, too many and it gets complicated, too little and it gets boring, make them unique and watch class balance closely.

Then you turn it into a FPS, making it a FPSMMORPG with 3rd party option, add physics, add interact able physics elements e.g. boulders blocking doors making them unable to be opened etc.

Then you try your hardest to hold onto the original development team otherwise you loose the plot and make space paladins.

Then you market it well and make it nice and cheap to buy and monthly sub.

Your done, you'll have a winner.

Warhammer online is essentially a revamped Dark Age of Camelot with a new engine, it will be good especially if you've never played DAoC. I'll still not buy it though, not got the time and it WILL suck up your social life!

Guild Wars 2 will be a contender when it's released.

I doubt that. The first Guild Wars was average at best, and even the lack of a monthly subscription didn't help it gain anything more than a niche following. Warhammer, Conan and such are looking far more threatening than Guild Wars 2 and those aren't exactly denting WoW's playerbase either.

I cannot see people flocking to Guild Wars 2, simply because it's not 'made that way'. It's not what the general 10 million WoW players are looking for.

Ive hard of this great new game, called real life!

You dont need to upgrade your hardware to play it, It has true to life physics and graphics, and allows you to full imerse yourself in gameplay!

and best of all, its free, you dont even have to download it or anything, it updates itself as you play! all you have to do is walk out your bedroom door and new game content is automatically available to you!

Ok, sarcasm over. I serisouly doubt there will be anything allong soon that has the time stealing abilities or beard growing addictiveness of WoW. It will be copied, ripped off, and then coppied some more, but I doubt any of them will be as successfull.
