Ok to start this is not an Angus Higgins style "what is the point" thread just me having a general moan.

Basically I have been working, free I might add, around 7 hours a night including around 12 hours Saturday and Sunday with my brother, to fit his new kitchen, for the past week!

It started with a "can you help me collect the units from B&Q" and has just spiralled out of control.

Now I ask you, would you charge your brother for this use of time as surely there is a line between helping and taking the **** and if so shall I collect in the manner of stewie from Family guy. where's my money, where's my money.

Would you charge him if it was the other way around, I would never ask my family for money for help I have given them as I wouldnt expect them to charge me.

Depends on your relationship with your brother really. My brother and I just help each other out when needed, certainly wouldn't charge him, just call the favour in when required.

point of family, love, support, always there for you, always help you, bail you out, etc.

No I would never charge my family for my time, and i cant understand 'family's' that do.

wouldnt charge him per se, but would expect one hell of a thank you in the form of a lot of alcohol/big dinner once its all fitted

My wifes family are a bit like this, her mother wont go out of her way to do anything for anyone unless it will benefit her too. Shes not shy in dropping hints if she wants something though. I just play dumb at this point ;)

sitting in your brothers new kitchen chewing the fat over a bottle of whisky and a job well done should be payment enough, money is secondary sometimes

saying that, 59 hours to put in a kitchen is a hell of a long time

Ha, I've just re-read my post. I sound like a complete ****:o

Basically I start my normal job at 07:00 and as soon as I finish I go straight to his and help out until about 22:00, aswell as doing 12 hour days at the weekend, so I'm kinda tired now and the post didnt really come out proper:D

I was takin the mick with him today sayin things like "all this free work I've been doin for you, what have you done for me lately" e.t.c. and just wondered whether other people would charge.

Yeah you tell him, send him an invoice and if there is no payment in 14 days contact your solicitor. :D

j/k

Nah you cant ask for money, once it's all finished he will no doubt give you something for your time.

If not, then dont hold any grudges agaist him, you are family and nothing is worth getting angry over.

Friends will always let you down, in the end when you're in the deep stuff, family should always be there for you imo.

Either do it with good grace or don't do it at all; he owes you nothing except maybe the favour returned when you need it.

Some people!

I would never consider "charging" for helping my brother out, but a goodwill gesture such as a crate of beer would never go a miss :)
