That amount of memory would probably not make any difference but there does need to be enough memory for the current work units. The 384MB 8800GSs are definitely lagging behind 512MB cards on some of the current WUs, even when clocked to the same speeds. But the speed of the RAM also makes a difference so DDR2 may well drag the card down.
