220 volts or 240 volts

I bought a juicer from the USA and now need to get it to work here in the UK. I heard you don't need a stepdown converter. Instead just a 240v plug adaptor, is this true?

Many thanks for all the replies guys and sorry for the late posting

The juicer is 100 watts and the plug is 110 volts. I emailed the company and they said that I won't need to use a stepdown transformer. Instead they said the juicers works fine using a 240v plug adapter. I don't think I have used one of these before, is that the kind where you push the USA plug I have into the adapter and then you plug that adapter into your mains outlet? Or is it simply a new cable with a UK plug on the end that takes voltage up to 240 volts?

Many thanks in advance

Yes, you can plug your PS3 straight into that with no problems as the PSU inside is universal and can take 110v-240v 50-60Hz.

Many thanks for your quick reply

So basically any electronics product I ever buy in the USA where it's power cable is rated at 110v-240v I can use with that adapter you posted?

Is that the one you own, how much is it, where did you get it from?

Many thanks

a travel adapter that converts voltage is that also known as a stepdown transformer?

Does overclockers sell US to UK adaptors? I can't see any!

a) A stepdown transformer is a stepdown transformer - it takes a higher-voltage input and outputs at a lower voltage. It has nothing to do with travel adapters, especially as you'll need a fairly hefty and probably travel-unfriendly one to power a juicer.

But I have seen on some web retailers a plug adaptor that converts voltage, I thought those work in the same way as step down transformers which purpose are to convert voltage.

Really I am not after a voltage converter plug adapter but just a standard plug adapter that can take 110-240 volts.

Okay I have taken a look at the back of my juicer, it just has a power port with no markings on it. Then the power supply has some logo on it, then it says

Toy Transformer
Input: 100-127V AC
50-60Hz 750mA
Output: 30V DC 1000mA

Class 2 Transformer

On the back of the juicer it says device input is 30v DC 1.0A

So from those specs is it fine to just use a 110v to 240v plug adapter?

Edit: I looked at the manual for anything to do with power and it says 'plug in the power supply to a standard 120 volt outlet and into the back of the juicer'

I emailed the company I bought the product from and they said they had confirmation from the manufacturer that all that is needed is a 240v plug adapter to work here in the UK.

But from those specs your saying I now need a step down transformer? But if we go back to the PS3 which I have also got from the USA how is it I don't need a step down transformer with that. And all I need is a plug adapter or a kettle cable?

The PS3 has a power supply that accepts a variable input voltage. The juicer doesn't. It's that simple. You're taking something really simple and making it really complicated.

When you mean power supply is that the cable or something actually built into the PS3?

Okay so I take it if you look on the back of the PS3 it reads something like 'this power supply accepts a variable voltage' am I right?

Now my juicer doesn't say that, but the manafactuer says it does not need a step down transformer to work in the UK just a plug adapter. Now that's coming from the manufacturer so it's got to be right, but you guys have seen the specs I posted so how can this be right? I don't know anymore what's correct.

Okay you guys say I need a step down transformer, but like I have already said the socket that goes into the mains reads transformer, so how can I go from a transformer to a transformer? Shouldn't I use a travel adaptor like the manufacturer has told me to do so?

I just want to get the right plug/adapter/transformer because I hope it will be compatible with other devices I am getting from the USA like the logitech g25 steering wheel.
