What is this beast?

This just flew in through my window. I caught and released it but was wondering what it is? Never seen one before. Some kind of beatle I presume but what?

and no I don't drink Carling, but I did steal the glass from the local pub with an anal landlord who throws you out at 11.15pm

Well I wasn't expecting to get it named after me or anything. I presumed it would be common and other people would've seen one before.
