Very tall post on one side of the road. No markings in the road. The camera is a small (half to a quarter of a gatso camera), but it had two lenses pointed at me, and the another camera pointing the opposite direction. It's grey and non descript. This is on the a roads in the highlands btw. Speed camera or traffic camera?

They are installing SPECS cameras on the A9 (Because its speeding that casues all the death on that road, not the fact that they've put GATSO's in the only safe overtaking spots so people do banzai overtakes in stupid places instead). Perhaps it was that.

Joke the problem with the road is the stupid overtaking not the speed limit. Now more people will be getting annoyed sat at 40~ as people will be too scared to sit at 60.

Hope it's not in before I move.

I truly hope that this stupid decision doesn't mean that a lot of UK roads will be ruined in the same way.

I think its the future of speed cameras. A lot of drivers only seem to bang the brakes on when they get to a speed camera, then speed up again afterwards. Average speed cameras are going to make that difficult'
Of course, in a lot of places it seems to be more to do with money collection than road safety...

They aren't the big yellow ones like in that link though, they are smaller and grey. It also seems that it won't be 'fully operational' until 2014. If they were for speed though then I've probably list my license. I'll find out soon I guess. There was no markings indicating average sped cameras, surely they would have to indicate it?

Exactly - and when you DO find a safe place to overake, there is usually a GATSO on it. So the impatient people end up having to wait until the unsafe places before performing reckless overtakes.

But it's ok, because its just speed that kills and cameras will fix everything.

So can anyone confirm what they are? Just to clarify they are two lenses in the same rectangle, you have to look quite hard to notice that. They aren't specs like in the above links. Is there a new brand/model of average speed camera? Also on a 60mph road at what speeds do Scotland start using fixed penalty notices? Also, same question but for dual carriageway at 70mph?

Thanks for any shared knowledge!

Have you never noticed that plenty of drivers still brake when they go past average speed cameras? It indicates of a level of intelligence that is too low to be driving a car safely IMO.

good info there :D nice one!

lol at the satellite cameras!!! using sats to track speeding cars and such....sounds like a bit of a big brother thing to me. everyone will just start driving at night with radar deadening paint with the light slits that were used in WWII so they can't be spotted xD hahaha

have always wondered about those "traffic master" cameras though as see them quite a bit on bridges/overpasses. :)
