From a recent thread now closed:

"Based on the latest rule change, this topic needs to be created again, but within Speaker's Corner.
If you wish to re-open the thread there you are welcome to do so, but please be mindful of the additional rules around that particular sub-forum."

What latest rule change is this and what criteria makes it necessary for a discussion to only take place in the Speaker's Corner?

One might get the impression robust discussion is being delierstely stifled and segregation by political allegiances and opinions on contentious subjects is occurring :) Are we seeing political apartheid in action here? ;)

So has the thread in question effectively just been blocked from further discussion, or has it been moved over to the Speaker's Corner? And it seems the answer to what this "latest rule change" is, remains awaiting clarification.

But the moderator is suggesting that thread be recreated in SC, and has blocked further replies to it in GD....

He also said:

I took that to mean that the OP wouldn’t pass this threshold so would need amended before posting.

Ok, I've just read the other thread, and the OP's link.

I won't post here though as whatever I post might fall foul to whatever rule was broken for the other thread to be locked.

Though I didn't see any post particularly offensive.

Is talking about sex education banned in GD?

best place for getting in touch with us directly is Forum Content Discussion , rather than a new GD thread that could end up being derailed.

I did have a user ask me the same question directly (via conversation) so I'll post my response here:

Hi There

Rules are found here:

Rules

In the new ruleset, we are referring to this block:

Whilst we allow the discussion of matters such as race, sex, religion, nationality, disabilities, politics, and gender, we require these posts and comments to remain on topic, constructive and objective and remind all contributors to be considerate and think about how others may interpret their comments before posting.

Within GD, some posters find it very easy to step over the line or derail the thread (especially with hot topics) - which then tends to kick up a back and forth that ends up requiring a large amount of moderation to correct. Once a thread becomes too much to keep on top of (and it's happened in the past), we'd just lock the thread down and kill off the discourse.

So the compromise, rather than outright banning threads on the more heated topics (trans / lgbtq+ etc) was to allow them but within Speakers Corner, where posters can't just fire from the hip, post memes or be deliberately inflammatory to poke responses from others.

The thread you've linked to above was already starting to see immature posting, which left unchecked would just lead to the thread being locked. Again as there is a discussion to be had on the topic, we'd prefer it in SC rather than GD. As there are already a number of posts and a tone set, we'd thought it would be better to be restarted than the thread moved and pretty much wiped by us with no visible reason (as it would be retroactive SC style moderation).

I hope this clears things up for you.

Just as a note, when we decide to lock / move threads it's done as a team decision, so a more balanced approach is taken (as the moderating team comes from all parts of the socio-political spectrum).

To add further clarity, it was discussed in a thread regarding the rules being changed which the OP was a part of.
