What is this sorcery? Sending Word document, being received as a PDF?

Hi,

I'm trying to send an email with two word documents, both have been received by the recipient as PDF's?

I've just sent the exact email to my personal email address and the same thing occurred, PDF.

It's coming from my work email, why would this occur?

Your workplace must have something in place to do this? I assume this stops outside companies modifying documents (To an extent).
 
Could you just rename the file type to .PDF then email it and get them to rename it .DOC at the other end?
