What is this type of game

Hi all,

I used to play games like this when I was much younger. I've been wanting to go back to playing them just for a bit of fun but I can't remember what it was and what they are called.

Basically you have your own kingdom, you manage it, you gain gold every day, build an army, and attack other people. Can anyone think of any popular and decent ones?

Age of Empires? Majority of RTS games (real time strategy).

Most of those browser based games are rather poor on gameplay and just bait you in as 'free to play' but rely on you to use micro transactions to have a competitive edge in my experience.

There's several retail games that are vastly superior and will offer you much richer gameplay in my opinion. I'd thoroughly recommend Rise of Nations if you are looking for something to ease you into the genre as it's vastly superior to Age of Empires IMO and can be picked up dirt cheap these days. If you are looking for something turn based or with more strategic depth, then Civilization is the best bet, though can be a bit intimidating to learn at first. If you fancy something with more of a focus on combat, then try the Total War series.

You mean like Travian or OGame?

I don't think there is a specific name for them, I'd just call them browser strategy games.
