What is this!??!

its a bolt thread fixing for wood.
that fixing would be inserted into a hole in a piece of would say a table top. Then the table leg would have a bolt fitted in the end which would screw into that fixing hence attaching the table leg to the table top.

alan key form is for screwing this fixing into the wood

A tad short for a leg fixing.

Its a keystone lock. When a building is constructed the keystone is inserted and it supports the entire weight of the building. As a safety measure a keystone lock is installed to secure the keystone in place and make the building safe. If the keystone lock has been removed then the whole entire building could collapse down upon your head at any moment!

Do you work in the dullest office on earth?

'we found a small screw'

'quick, to the Internet!'

Meanwhile someone in the background swoons and faints due to the unexpected excitement.

Lol, such anger! Grow up please.

Well the rest of the world can see them ok so it looks as though it's you who is on his own! Perhaps your amazing bunker has a crappy ISP? BOOM! Yeah, I went there

Not an issue with the bunker persay more an issue with the proxy for work over the VPN... and no you still can't come in!

I'm assuming they have so little work to do that they decided to have a game of Pictionary in the office, and thought it would be "quirky" and "cool" to give it a cutsie little name like "Desk Draw"

Just to clear this up a bit...

The fixing was found in a desk drawer* and 3 of us didn't know what it was so I thought I would bung it on here and see if you guys knew. Lets face it there have been worse threads in the past on GD but that's why its called 'General Discussion'

Some of the replies have raised a laugh, so thanks for that :) And thank you for explaining what it actually is seeing that three 20 something computer geeks didnt know

*the spelling was a mistake by me - not an attempt to be "cute"
