This appears to be a tussock moth caterpillar, likely in the Orgyia genus, which is known for its distinctive tufts and warning coloration, traits that signal potential toxicity to predators. These caterpillars feed on a variety of trees and shrubs, but they pose no structural threat to buildings and certainly won’t be munching on your garage anytime soon. Despite their dramatic appearance, they're more bark than bite, unless you’re a leaf. All in all, it's harmless to your property and mostly just here to confuse and intrigue passersby like the fuzzy little thread bumper it is.
