What is up with O2 Network !

The O2 signal around Middleton (North Manchester) is non existent. Quite literally in most parts as there's been a mast issue for about 4 years. Even when it 'worked' it was noticeably slower than EE / Vodafone.

There's actually an O2 store in the town centre and I genuinely don't know how they sell a single phone. There is absolutely no O2 signal there at all due to the mast issue and it being inside an old, concrete arndale. They must either be fantastic salespeople or conmen.
Majority of O2 stores have a micro cell inside.

Obviously won’t provide coverage in the bigger area but the shop will have coverage.

I’m glad it’s not just me. I had been an EE user for years but me and my wife (also on EE) would not have coverage on a few recent trips away and thought maybe it would make sense for one of us to be on different network, so we have a better chance of at least one of us having a signal when we are in low coverage areas. So I switched to o2 about two months ago and have barely had any useable 3G / 4G signal for data since and have just ordered a new PAYG EE sim this afternoon.

Thread Bump!!

For the past few years O2 have been fine at my work location but recently the data speeds have really dropped off a cliff. Having contacted them to complain apparently there's work ongoing to improve things - for the past 5 weeks.

I've checked the Mastdata website (www.mastdata.com) and it looks like EE are the better option at work if O2 can't fix it soon, but EE (or ££ more like) are non-existing where I live, typical!

I suggest checking out 1pmobile or spusu, both who uses the EE network and generally cheaper. Not sure if it will help but both also supports WiFi calling, so that could work in your home. EE (and every other network) have poor coverage in my home, but as long as I'm connected to WiFi, WiFi calling has worked well.

That's a good shout on 1pmobile (and Mozillion thanks @randal) as at £15 for a roling one month rolling plan for 100GB that's great value. Incidentally that the same amount o2 refunded me for complaining :D.

I think I'll get the best of both worlds here - downgrade my contract with O2 and get either a 1pmobile or Mozillion sim and put it in a 4G mobile router for use at work and away. Off shopping for a sim router now, the 5G ones are a bit spendy I see!

I was with 02 for best part of 13 years and they just got worse. Moved to EE and got 30% off as my partner is on it and can get Apple Music or Game pass

O2 network is trash compared to vodaphone, but the benefits of O2 are just better, so I stay with O2, their contract prices are generally cheaper for the latest phones, I like the 3 month upgrade thing, the priority etc... I'm not very sociable so phone calls and sometimes using wifi or manually change to 4g etc.. doesn't bother me much.
