What is up with the price of the Wii?

make a quick buck thats what its all about

ebay
retailers
internet shops

they all doing the same thing can you imagine any of the above would have paid over the odds for a wii

its a scam and everyone knows it :o

I blame the consumer.

If no-one paid the extortionate prices, they would have no choice but to reduce them.

As long as people are willing to pay that kind of price, you can't blame anyone else imo.

Its an auction, nobody would reduce the prices, they would just sell for perhaps the retial price and the seller would lose out as he would still have fees to pay.

Good grief are OcUK really selling the Wii at more than the 360 Elite?! Might be time to look at getting my Wii up on the bay.

That is a bloody good idea...

I've had the Wii since launch, modded it to play imports, and it's sat unused due to completely renovating the entire downstairs of the house.. I won't finish it all by christmas, so I don't think I'll miss anything!!! and just pick one up after xmas for £179.99.....

Sounds like a plan..

Hmm, I think you'll at least have to get your name on a list, just picking one up hasn't applied to the Wii all year.

The sister in law works for Asda, they've had the odd ones come in small batches, and I could have had one last week for example, and with 10% discount.. so I think it wouldn't be too hard after Xmas, and there is always the second hand market with people dumping their impulse buys..

But that's exactly what i'm saying. They'd sell for 'retail' price, aka £179 ... not £320 or whatever outrageous price the shops are demanding.

The only reason they can demand such a high price is because of the consumer, and the fact they know they'll pay.

Hence it's the consumers fault, imho.

Who is responsible the now ludicrous prices? The retailers, or Nintendo?

Daft post.

Ludicrous, ONLY console to use sensors as a controller, New gen of console, New gen of Games, Next gen gfx, the price of this console is low if you ask me, It sold more units then the 360 last week, do a bit of research bud.

And for £29 more than its original price, the PS3 was well on its way to £500 how the hell cna you justify that, to say its not that much greater than a 360 which is still at a pretty extortionate price.

it's the same every year coming up to christmas... the sudden "problems" getting x,y or z console

blatant marketing. create a panic, everyone thinks "must get one"

after christmas the boat will have arrived and all of a sudden there will be loads, and some top deals.

Exactly. Its your own fault if you didnt buy the Wii early enough in time for xmas. Your the only one to blame. It was the same last xmas, and its the same again this year. I do not think the console is worth £300, you would have to be barmey to pay that price, but retailers know they will be able to sell at that price come xmas so what is really stopping them. Naff all.

Retailers tend to keep up with competitors, someone sets a nice price, with careful guidence from some top execs and then another company raises their prices, a few months later, everyone just drops hoping to sell the most within so long..

Again and again and again... Never fails to raise a smile on my face when reading such things as this, obviously its going to happen, it happens every year, in a weeks time all youll hear is 'parents are buying A intime for xmas during this years xmas rush'.

I'm sorry, are you saying the Wii @ £320 is priced, low?

The OP is referring to the price the Wii is at right now, not what it was when it was first released.

Next gen graphics? That's certainly up for debate.

I may stand corrected on this, im sure it is next gen though.

As for the price, i paid 200 for a 360, im sure i would pay 320 for a Wii if i had the money, i think it would probably be worth it, as it is a good console, but after xmas when it drops to 250 with games, extra controller, free subscription etc id be annoyed.

£180 is the right price for the Wii, anything over £200 is silly.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great system and I love Nintendo, but it isn't worth more than £200

The pricing is just set by supply and demand. If you have ever looked into economics you will understand that its not the retailers fault or the manufacturer, its yours, yours being the customer.
