what is winxp mode within win7 ?

hi,

just wondering what this is likely to affect, the current RC version runs everything i need to but i'm not sure what "version" of win7 its considered to be, so not sure if it contains winxp mode.

I thnk the RC versions are Windows 7 Ultimate, which does contain the XP mode.

mmm cheers, so not really a reliable test that my software works on win7

Er yes it is unless you've specifically downloaded and installed the XP virtual machine (which you wont have).

It's for running applications that only work in XP.

"Windows XP mode" is a niche feature which requires you to download and install Microsoft's virtual machine software. You would know if you were using it. It's aimed at a small number of specialised buisness productivity applications that don't otherwise work in Windows 7. It's nothing to do with Windows 7 being compatible with the majority of existing Windows software.
