hi guys

i am with virgin media 50mb cable, in last 12 months, i ALWAYS pull 6mpbs from usenet (unlimited newshosting), no matter what time in the day.

in last 1 week, i cannot get more than 1.5mbps, with newly NZB, i tried many NZB's from different places, make no difference.

i havent changed any settings in grabit (usenet client) or my router.

i get full 50mb from speedtest. so is it newshosting or VM traffic shaped usenet now?

edit : i download linux ISO's at full speed with download manager

thanks

virgin are watching for people who try get round their throttling and when you get you they cap you to 512k for the day.

[EDIT]
And no, changing ports wont work for torrents

lol serves you right for being lucky enough to get 50mbit.
I hope Virgin shape the hell out of all Virgin customer
.

Oh well its not like its all the time, nice period in the day time for weekends to still get great speeds:p and even when shaping I still seem to get about 20 meg:D so still faster than any adsl available in my area.

Who knows maybe this is all a ploy by Virgin to make us 50 meg users upgrade to the 100 meg being rolled out now. I would be very interested to know if anyone one on the 100meg has traffic shaping as well. If that gets shapped as well no way will I bother upgrading.

how did you go about changing port? I use torrents are you able to use this same trick to keep them unthrottled?

Yes. Set your torrent client to use port 443 as well as forcing encryption and forwarding the port in your router.

Cheers for the info. I had done all that apart from port forwarding in the router. I'll guess I'll find out later if it works or not.

Not quite as you can get Infinity products now which are not strictly ADSL but VDSL and thats 40meg! :p

Infinity is not in my area so for me it is about the best other option where I live is BE 24 meg.

All infinty products are "up to 40 meg" depending again from distance to the exchange or green cabinet thing.
