It seems like my motherboard is very fussy about which ram i use, can anyone help me to get it working.?

Firstly i have an Asus striker extreme motherboard 680i

2 x 1 gig corsair xms2 DHX 800MHz 5-5-5-15

and i bought this about a week ago but cant for the life of me get it to work, auto, manual setting i have tried, entering the timmings and voltages manually :S

could my cpu overclock affect this.?

many thanks.

and yeah im running vista x64 before i get the whole speach lol

Could be FSB / memory divider / tRD problem.

Try running a different divider / increasing the tRD (may be "Performance Level" in BIOS, or even something stupid like AI Transaction booster") / increasing the MCH voltage.

Can you test the RAM in another machine?

Are you sure your CPU overclock is stable? Try at default speeds.

In the past when I have installed new memoery I have needed to do a BIOS reset, and setup my overclock again.

If it was a TRD problem then more than likely it would not boot (my board doesn't, freezes detecting RAM)

Sounds like FSB / Divider problem.

I would test from stock clocks and make sure thats fine. Would also Memtest the RAM just to make sure you haven't been sent duff sticks - can happen (as i found out recently with my purchase of some G skill RAM but thats a different story!)

Try this BIOS from an earlier thread of mine :)

I had the same RAM in mine - DON'T run it at the recommended 2.1V - they are usually Crucial D9 chips and will burn because the Striker Overvolts the RAM slightly by default.

IIRC I RAN mine at 2.25V (it was the 8500 version) but there were no issues with OCZ ram. Try it at 2.0 - 2.025V.

As you'll see from the above threads, it ran like a dream :)

I was having stability issues with a P5N32-E which is basically the same board, getting BSODs and all sorts, but i think ive fixed it by running the memory in Linked mode and Sync mode, instead of having it unlinked running at its proper 1066Mhz

Also i had to use the You-Pax drivers for my X-Fi as the creative ones made the system BSOD upon startup. I had to use the X-Fi as my GFX cards are the EVGA AC3 ones and the big heatsink on the rear of the top card blocks the slot intended for the SupremeFX module.

Andy, should i reduce the volts im giving my RAM, its the kingston HyperX 4Gb stuff thats on offer, its recommended 2.0v which is what its set at, should i reduce it to 1.9v, and as its now only running at 850Mhz i may see if i can tighten the timings as well.

Try knocking it down a little - it won't fry it immediately running it at Kingston's recommended settings but it is a known issue with the board.

Drop it a little and see what happens mate. If it'll run at 2.0V then it will last longer and run a wee bit cooler too :)
