What is your favourite game of all time, and why?

I'd have to say Ultima Online.

I started playing (relatively) late with the Lord Blackthorn's Revenge pack, just pre-Pub 16.

However there has never been anything since that made me feel so immersed, like a second place to live, different characters and adventures, everything about the music and sounds evokes strong emotions when I hear them now. Simply sublime and I'm really not sure how that was one of the first MMORPGs and somehow the industry has progressed backwards from there!

While Half-Life 2 comes to mind first, and is a legend of a game.

I would have to say the Just Cause 2 is my favorite game of all time, its just a shame the missions didn't last longer, but the side missions are excellent.

GTA: San Andreas comes in next on my list.

Gotta be Everquest 1 for me. No minimap, no fast travel, nights that were actually pitch black, really interesting classes, and no instancing. It was brilliant :)

So many! World of Warcraft was a massive part of my teenage years and I still reminisce with my mates about doing dungeons and ****ing about on it while we should have been doing coursework.

Other games spring to mind as well, the Spyro series on PS1 was an absolute gem. Still got an emulated version of Spyro 3 sitting on my laptop...great fun to dive in and play now and again.

Delta Force: Black Hawk Down is another game that's influenced me and is probably the one game I'll never EVER throw out or uninstall. It was actually fairly mediocre, but I spent so long modding it and making maps for it and learnt so much about coding and 3D modelling. Definitely something that'll stick with me!

Mine is completely different from all the others LOL
Since playing it when i was young my favourite game has always been starfox on the snes. I still have a working console and cartridge that i boot up every now and then.

Have to make honorable mentions for both tie fighter and the older adventure games though as many hours spent playing them.

Carmaggeddon was the first PC game that truly got me hooked, Half Life because there was just nothing like it before that I'd experienced..

But for me, honestly I have to to say Hitman: Blood Money...

I'd followed the franchise from the original, which always felt it had more potential than it was able to deliver until the released Contracts which was just superb!! Revisiting the best missions of the previous games but done in oh so much more detail and excellence.... But Blood Money was just the peak, the best missions that could just be replayed again and again and again....

Gawd I wish they'd not of borked it with Absolution

Asherons Call would be up there - it was my first MMO (and one of the first ever MMOs) and I played this for several years. I met a lot of friends on there and still go on there now and again.

There's so many other games I loved and played to death but none that I spent as much time on.

Probably morrowind, put some hours into it when I was at school. Really loved the massive world and trying to get all the cool loot that was stashed in dungeons and ruins. Strangely though I don't enjoy skyrim or oblivion that much.

Fantastic game, and is, I think, the only truly open world game I've played. :)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R games.

Been playing them since release and I do an annual playthrough at least 2-3 times a year and still manage to find new things. The atmosphere and the feel of it hasn't been matched by any games yet and I don't think it will be. Another bonus is the modding community which is well established and keeps the game fresh.

I've had games I've loved such as Lemmings, Tomb Raider, Half Life2, Skyrim but my favourite of all time would probably have to be a game I played back in the 80's called Elite, it was ridiculously addictive and would still be the game I put the most amount of hours into, I imagine.

Very difficult to pick a favourite of all time but one that tends to come to mind is:

Deus Ex

Just loved it. There are games with fun game play but the difference between those and the great games is the atmosphere that they can create. Deus Ex was tons of fun and you felt part of the game.

I couldnt say Elite, it was too dam hard. Docking with a station was often a terrible failure

Stuntcarracer or Ferrari 355 challenge because they are unique. Maybe IK+ for old multiplayer, cs modern

Dark Age of Camelot.

Countless hours clocked between 2001 and 2012.

Hopefully, TESO will be as good.

Infiltrator as said above on the C64 and also Midwinter on the Atari ST and Elite 2 frontier on the amiga. :)

Why? all offered an immense freedom and score did not matter! ;)

Simcity also would have to go in there for the amount of freedom you have.:D

The original Deus Ex.

For all the reasons mentioned before, levels were completable in so many fashions, so many game styles, it had not been done before, nor has it really been done since in such depth.

Abe's Exodduss, and then Abe's Oddysee. A rare occasion where the rushed sequel was a massive improvement, despite Oddysee still being an extremely good game.
